HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Thune Primary School is one of the branches of Mamabolo schools that were started by missionaries from Scotland. The school, Thune Primary was established in 1905 by Selope Thema, a product of Mokefa who was a teacher then. The final part of the school was standard three. Selope Thema started the school with the following people: Elizabeth Raphela, Francina Kgopa, Evodia Raphela, Sarah Nyama, Anna Mogashoa, Johnson Rathobotha, Darius Sehlapelo.

A teacher from Colony, Samuel Fokoane taught at the school with unqualified lady teacher Georgina Serebane. Samuel Fokoane left the school and a “qualified teacher” Phillip Phashe Magagane who was affectionately known as PP Magagane became the first principal in 1911. Mr Phillip Magagane was a Lovedale student from 1914 to 1918. He went to the first world war and the school was under Thomas Nyama, who completed his teaching at Lemana institution. In 1918 Mr PP Magagane returned from the first world war and took over his pricipalship again and he was elected the supervisor of Pietersburg District working with Mr Graham. In 1926 Mr Magagane started (introduced) standard six (6) at Thune Primary School in Polokwane District. The first learners /students to pass standard six amongst others were: Elizabeth Nyama, Esther Mathiba and Prescilla Raphela.Mr PP Magagane taught at Thune Primary School from 1911 to 1940, from there he left to Dihlophaneng to re-establish a school that was no longer functioning.
